Dairy Australia - Dairy information for Australian Dairy Farmers and the industry

Primary content

Our Farm, Our Plan is a new program developed by Dairy Australia with support from the Gardiner Dairy Foundation and DairyNZ. It is designed to equip farmers to clarify their long term goals, identify the actions needed and to manage uncertainty and risk.

Having a clear view of long term business and personal goals helps to make better decisions, especially the big decisions. Our Farm, Our Plan keeps it simple and takes long term plans and ideas from your head and gets them down on one page. The ‘Plan on a Page’ requires agreement, is able to be shared and enables you to track your progress.

Our Farm, Our Plan gets your plans on one page, and everyone on the same page

What you need to get started

Below are the key documents you can download to get started on the Our Farm, Our Plan program. Take a self-assessment using the Farm Fitness Checklist, plan it out in three easy steps with the QuickPlan and commit and share with others your Plan on a Page. You can also order your free of charge Our Farm, Our Plan folder containing all three documents.

  • Farm Fitness Checklist

The Farm Fitness Checklist is a ‘self-assessment’ tool to measure where you’re at now and to identify opportunities for improvement. Each section of the checklist will prompt your thinking and discussion about different aspects of your farm business.

  • QuickPlan keeps it simple

The QuickPlan uses a three step process to take the ideas and plans in your head and develop a clear understanding of your long term business and personal goals. It can be used by anyone and is used in Our Farm, Our Plan workshops, which are ideal for discussion groups.

  • Plan on a page

The Plan on a Page’allows you to agree on what’s important, share your plan and track your progress. Be confident that you have a shared vision and long term goals – both business and personal; communicate your vision and plan with other people; refer back to your plan to track your progress and be accountable.

Workshops and Support

Group workshops are being delivered to take farmers through the Our Farm, Our Plan process. Follow up 1:1 support is provided over 12 months to participants. These workshops are ideal for discussion groups.

Dairy biosecurity

Dairy biosecurity is vital for protecting your farm. Dairy farmers and their advisors now have access to a new online biosecurity tool to build their skills and adapt their management approach to biosecurity risks.

Hay and grain reports

The hay and grain report is commissioned by Dairy Australia to provide an independent and timely assessment of hay and grain markets in each dairying region. The report is updated 40 weeks per year.
