Dairy Australia - Dairy information for Australian Dairy Farmers and the industry

Primary content

Dairy Australia has created a suite of tools and resources to assist farmers to develop a comprehensive safety system on their farm, toward the industry goal of zero fatalities on dairy farms.

Below are some practical resources, designed and tested by dairy farmers to apply on-farm.

Farm Safety Starter Kit

Developed by dairy farmers for dairy farmers, the Farm Safety Starter Kit provides practical, easy-to-use resources to enable dairy farmers to get their farm safety system started or improve the existing system. The kit contains:

  • Farm safety induction: a checklist on the key areas to be covered for new employees, roles and responsibilities for farm managers and employees
  • Safety system snapshot: a ‘traffic lights’ format which compares your farm system to the law
  • Quick safety scans: a set of one page scans on the key hazard areas on a dairy farm
  • Injury and incident register: a ready-to-use template to record incident information
  • Action plan: to assist you to follow up on the areas that need to be fixed or improved.

Farm Safety Manual

The Farm Safety Manual is a step by step approach to build a safety system for dairy farms and keep this system maintained. Work through the sections at your own pace, building your farm safety system as you go.

Farm safety workshops

Through its Regional Development Programs, Dairy Australia runs workshops and events to assist farmers to upskill both themselves and farm workers on technical and non-technical aspects of farming.

For more information on farm safety workshops in your region, contact your local Regional Development Program or check out Dairy Australia's events calendar.

Watch Gippsland dairy farmer Trish Hammond talk about the safety system she has developed on her farm, and how she reminds her kids – Dane, Amber and Lara – about the importance of safety on their 650 cow farm.

Our Farm, Our Plan

Our Farm, Our Plan is a new program designed to equip farmers to clarify their long term goals, identify the actions needed and to manage uncertainty and risk.

Hay and grain reports

The hay and grain report is commissioned by Dairy Australia to provide an independent and timely assessment of hay and grain markets in each dairying region. The report is updated 40 weeks per year.
