Murray Dairy Achievements Report 2018-19

Every year, alongside our Annual Report, Murray Dairy publishes an Achievements Report highlighting the partnerships, programs and initiatives delivered over the year.

In 2018-19 Murray Dairy continued with a concerted effort on the delivery of innovative programs to help build critical thinking, knowledge and capability. We recognise and are responding to change that continues to shape our region, including water reform, climate change, rising input costs, volatile seasonal conditions and challenging commodity markets.

Particularly important this year was the release of Future Focus Dairy Industry Strategy - Murray region, which provides an in-depth analysis of dairy in the region and is a roadmap for industry, government and commercial and private organisations to take a collaborative approach forward.

At the close of the 2018-19 season, Murray Dairy had delivered over 160 events to well over 3,000 participants, including farm owners, managers, staff, students and service providers.

Murray Dairy also supported 22 Discussion Groups and Dairy Business Networks (DBNs), engaging over 300 farm businesses.

The focus of the year was on providing a regionally and seasonally relevant response program to farmers experiencing dry conditions and high feed prices. This included the delivery of one-on-one Taking Stock visits with 285 initial visits and a further 93 re-visits throughout the year. Over 1190 phone calls were also made by Dairy Liaison Officers to provide updated information on support programs from government and industry.

Murray Dairy's partnerships continue to grow. In 2018-19, we engaged with over 40 different government and non-government agencies, leveraging every $1 of levy funds by a further $4, to bring additional resources and expertise to the region to support the dairy industry.
