The Scott family was a WestVic Focus Farm from Month 2014 - Month 2016

Farm challenges and goals

At the start of their Focus Farm project, specific challenges and goals for the Scott family included:

  • Improving pasture access for the herd by installing drainage and underpass infrastructure.
  • Implementing a calving pattern which best aligns with milk flow and farm conditions.
  • Better understanding business labour needs and reducing farm business costs.
  • Increasing home grown feed consumption.

Closing report - November 2015

  • Harvest completed 1,506 silage rolls made compared to 1,130 in 2014.
  • Production up by 13% YTD on last year (or 9,869 kg/MS).
  • Financial forecast for 2015/16 indicates feed costs will reduce from $3.50/kgMS in 2014/15 to $2.93/kgMS
  • Financial forecast for 2015/16 indicates EBITs will reduce from $1.49/kgMS to $1.37/kgMS despite a reduction in milk price of $0.68/kgMS.
